PAKAN: The fruit season in Sarikei division, particularly in Pakan district, holds significant potential to boost income and develop into an appealing tourism product.
State asemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said that the distinctiveness of the fruit season in this region is highly promising, as Sarikei is recognised as one of the key food production areas.
“With its abundant produce, Sarikei has the chance to transform into a captivating agro-tourism destination where visitors can appreciate both the natural beauty of the area and indulge in a variety of fresh fruits,” he said.
He was speaking at a Gotong-Royong Perdana dan Santai Makan Durian programme held at the Pakan District Office recently.
Mawan emphasised that strengthening the agricultural sector, especially fruit cultivation, could enhance the local economy and create new employment and business opportunities for the local community.
“Such ideas require further exploration and development to make them a reality, as this local fruit season is eagerly anticipated by fruit enthusiasts,” he said.
He added that fruits from the district such as Durian, Durian Isu, Pakon/Pakan Fruit, and Dabai are consistently in high demand.
“Therefore, I hope that similar programmes could be organised in other areas to promote Sarikei division as a fruit lover’s paradise,” said Mawan.
