SIBU: The Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu branch successfully raised funds during its 50th Anniversary Dinner recently, demonstrating the relevance of the non-governmental organisation.
According to its chairman, Chambai Lindong, SDNU Sibu managed to raise RM100,000 from various contributors.
“We successfully collected approximately RM100,000, which is the highest amount we have ever raised.
“This proves that we have successfully won the hearts of the public through the programmes we have conducted throughout the year,” he said.
He said this in his speech at an SDNU thanksgiving dinner held in conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebration at a renowned hotel here on Saturday night.
Chambai also commended all members, especially the executive committee, for their commitment to organising various programmes that have made SDNU well-known and close to the hearts of the community.
“All of this would not have been possible without the help, support, and cooperation of all members.
“Therefore, we decided to organise this dinner as a gesture of gratitude not only to the committee members involved but also to the media and many others,” he said.
Chambai emphasised that he was satisfied with all the programmes conducted, especially the SDNU 50th Anniversary Dinner, which was officiated by the president of SDNU, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.
“Tan Sri (Mawan) even told me twice that we had done a great job, not only in organising the dinner but also in all the programmes carried out by SDNU Sibu throughout the year,” he added.
He expressed hope that SDNU Sibu members would continue to maintain their excellent work and organise more programmes next year.
