SEBUYAU: Sarawak’s stable and peaceful environment continues to attract significant investor interest, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

During a recent working visit to Japan, he observed that Sarawak has garnered high regard among its international counterparts.

“In Japan, we met with numerous companies and representatives from the Ministry of International Trade to explore avenues for enhancing trade and investment, particularly between Japan and Sarawak.

“We are immensely proud that Sarawak’s reputation is now highly esteemed. They are deeply impressed by our policies, our strategic execution, our resource management, and our dedication to nurturing skilled talent among our people. This is a testament to the exceptional leadership of our esteemed Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said when officiating at the Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sebuyau Branch Delegates Meeting at the Sebuyau Development Hall today (Dec 21).

Awang Tengah, who also serves as Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, added that there has been a significant surge in investor interest, including from those already operating within Sarawak.

“Even existing players in Sarawak, such as those based in Samalaju Industrial Park and Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone, are actively expanding through reinvestment. This demonstrates their unwavering confidence in our clear policies and robust legal framework,” he said.

Awang Tengah also underscored Sarawak’s strategic focus on data centres, hydrogen production, and carbon initiatives as the state prepares for the transition to a digital economy.

“Initiatives like carbon capture and storage are integral to the burgeoning new economy. This is not a localised phenomenon but rather a global economic trend,” he said.

He further stressed the paramount importance of preparing for new economic sectors while simultaneously ensuring the development of a skilled workforce for future generations.

“Talent development is crucial for the future, for the future of our children. The economic landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation. We are providing clear pathways. This is the path forward for us, for the current generation, and for generations to come,” he said.

He also stated that Sarawak’s initiatives will not only enhance revenue streams but also create high-paying job opportunities and foster greater involvement in startups and entrepreneurship.

“This presents a multitude of opportunities to bolster our revenue streams. It will also generate high-paying employment opportunities for our youth. Moreover, it encourages their active participation in startups, entrepreneurship, and commerce. There is a vast array of avenues for them to explore and contribute to,” he added.
