KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) has called for continuous peace and harmony in the state.

Its chairman Datuk Danald Jute, who is also the Anglican Bishop of Kuching, said that the politicians play a part as the builders of unity for a more united Malaysia.

“Politicians, we believe, should be servants of peace and understanding, instruments of acceptance as well as harmony and peace.

“We, the Christian community, we stand for trust, truth, integrity, justice, peace, acceptance, respect, honour and more.

“Our prayers are always for our leaders and our nation so that we may continue to live in peace and harmony,” he said in his speech during the Christmas High Tea 2024 at the ACS hall here on Saturday.

The event was attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

On a related note, Danald said that the presence of Wan Junaidi, is more than just a kind symbolic gesture.

“Tun, is a Governor for all Sarawakians. We, the Christian community, would like to place on record our deep and profound appreciation to you, Tun. You have made us prouder as Sarawakians,”he added.

Meanwhile, Danald also extended appreciation to the state government and Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for giving generous allocations that many of the houses of worship as well as mission schools have improved tremendously.

“The improvement has given a more conducive place for worship as well as for learning” he said.

He also hoped that this upcoming Christmas, will bring many others to join in the Christmas spirit by visiting their friends for their open houses.

“In this way, we can build trust and understanding, which are important pillars for unity,” said Danald.

During the event, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah presented Christmas gifts to the recipients from the Salvation Army and Sarawak Society for the Blind.
