TOKYO: Central Security Patrols Co. Ltd. (CSP Group), a leading security and IT services provider from Japan, has expressed interest in establishing a data and artificial intelligence (AI) centre in Sarawak.
This was conveyed during a meeting on Wednesday (Dec 18) led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and CSP director, president and CEO Totaro Ichikawa in here.
Awang Tengah welcomed CSP’s proposed investment and highlighted that data centres and AI are key sectors under Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
CSP Group also signalled its intention to collaborate with academic institutions and private sector entities in Sarawak to support its investment initiatives.
This venture would mark CSP’s first effort to establish a data centre outside Japan.
Awang Tengah, who is also International Trade, Industry, and Investment (Mintred) Minister, expressed optimism about the project’s potential.
He noted that the initiative could create synergies with Sarawak’s ongoing developments, including smart city projects, autonomous mass transit systems, and security improvements.
“The government will assist the company in conducting feasibility studies for the project in Sarawak,” he said.
CSP Group has expanded its business scope from traditional security services to include data centre management and IT infrastructure solutions, enhancing its standing as an innovator in technological advancements.
The meeting was attended by Mintred Deputy Minister Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Mintred advisor Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datuk Abdullah Julaihi, and CSP senior managing director Masaaki Kokubo.
