KUCHING: The highly anticipated Sarawak New Year’s Eve celebration will feature top local talent as the state rings in 2025.
Themed “Countdown 2025: Let’s Celebrate Together,” the event will take place at the Kuching Waterfront on Dec 31.
Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event aims to elevate Sarawakian artists by giving them a platform to perform in front of a large audience.
“This will inspire them and boost their confidence to perform at other events in the future,” he told a press conference at Baitul Makmur II Building, Petra Jaya today (Dec 17).
The event will be divided into four segments:
- Daytime Segment (8.00 am – 6.30 pm): Aerobics sessions, performances by children and adults from the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) Art Guidance Class, visual arts exhibitions and demonstrations, and a show by the Sarawak Orchestra Symphony (SONS) Junior.
- Pre-Show Segment (8.00 pm – 9.45 pm): A captivating opening dance performance by the I-Cats Performing Arts group, winners of the state-level 34th Festival Tari dan Lagu Melayu Asli (FTLA).
- Official Segment (10.00 pm – 12.10 am): Performances by local artists such as Zee Avi, Harris Mukhriz, Isz Arfan, Harry Parren Ngau, Darren Jadriel Valentine, Norafizah Buseman, Ng Chien Chien, Roxy Ixzy, Aleysha & Ryan Zachary Van Der Horst, and Siti Hasmah.
- Post-Show Segment (12.10 am – 1.00 am): Performances by local bands and Akim & The Majistret, broadcast live on TVS.
The grand finale will feature a dazzling fireworks display.
Entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to showcase and sell their products during the event, Abdul Karim said.
He expressed confidence that the event will run smoothly and added that he has been informed that the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his family, may attend the celebration.
