THE Malaysian film industry celebrates yet another milestone as the heartfelt family drama “Babah” garners RM3 million within a week of its release.
Sharing the good news on social media, lead actor Qi Razali, who plays the titular role in the movie, took to social media and expressed, “Thank you to those who have supported the movie. Some of you have even watched it two or three times. Thank you so much.”
Qi, who is yet to be a dad and, in fact, is still single, became a “dad” on the silver screen, and it seems like he passed with flying colours.
“I channelled the energy of my late father into my latest role. But even then it was a major challenge to be a parent, as nothing beats being one in real life,” he said.
“InsyaAllah, we will keep pushing. Go, Babah!” he added.
Producer Nadia Nadzri revealed that Babah explores the rarely depicted bond between a father and his daughter. “For a daughter, her father is her first love, her protector. And for a father, his daughter is his eternal princess,” she explained.
The film, which co-stars Cristina Suzanne, Sweet Qismina, Adam Lee, and Kis Aista, and delves into the touching story of Isyak and his daughter Maya. Their relationship is tested as they navigate life’s challenges, including Maya’s struggle with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The duo communicates in sign language, a unique connection that underscores their unbreakable bond. But as Maya grows closer to her childhood friend Ikmal, Isyak faces the emotional struggle of “letting her go.”
Babah has struck a chord with audiences, proving that stories of love, sacrifice, and resilience transcend all boundaries.
