KUCHING: Sarawakian cricketer Nur Dania Syuhada will make history as the first player from the state to captain the national women’s team in the Asia Cup 2024.

The tournament, taking place in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 15 to 23, sees Nur Dania lead Malaysia against top Asian teams.

Under her guidance, the Malaysian squad is poised to compete against the best teams in Asia, with hopes of advancing to the tournament’s later stages, the Sarawak Cricket Association said in a statement.

Born and raised in Kuching, Nur Dania discovered her passion for cricket through grassroots programmes initiated by the Sarawak Cricket Association.

Her dedication and talent quickly propelled her to the national stage, earning 48 caps in the T20I format.

Beyond her on-field achievements, Nur Dania is a role model for aspiring cricketers, particularly young women.

She actively advocates for the development of women’s cricket and grassroots initiatives, encouraging the next generation to pursue their dreams in the sport.
