SIBU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has successfully removed 56,294 social media posts linked to online fraud this year.

Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching stated that most of the fraudulent posts were found on the Facebook platform.

“As of October this year, the losses caused by online fraud have amounted to RM1.2 billion, a staggering amount.

“At the same time, MCMC’s efforts to take down fraudulent posts have also intensified,” she said.

She said this in a press conference after a special interview session with SibuFM at RTM Sibu here today.

Teo added in 2022, only 242 fraudulent posts were successfully removed.

“This figure increased to 6,297 posts last year and further surged to 56,294 on social media this year,” she said.

She further mentioned that with the amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act in Parliament and the 2024 Online Security Bill, it is hoped that public awareness and individual vigilance against online fraud will improve.
