KUCHING: The Sarawak Esports Expo 2024 (SAREX24) has attracted teams from Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, West Malaysia, Sabah, Labuan, and Sarawak, as it aims for global recognition as a premier esports platform.

SAREX24 organising chairman Afiq Fadhli Narawi described the event as a milestone in Sarawak’s esports journey, which began in 2018 and has now culminated in its third edition.

“This series has evolved into a premier platform for esports, technology, and creativity, reflecting the growth and potential of Sarawak as a leader in the esports and creative industries,” he said delivering his speech at the opening ceremony of SAREX last night (Dec 13).

This year’s SAREX features a robust lineup of tournaments, including PUBG Mobile (international), Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, eFootball, Tekken 8, and rFactor 2, with a total prize pool of RM80,000.

Afiq, who is also the President of Sarawak Esports Association (SESA), said the vision for SAREX is to become one of the world’s leading esports events—a stage where top players, content creators, and innovators converge to compete, collaborate, and inspire.

The event, held at MBKS Community Hall from Dec 13–15, also includes a cosplay competition, interactive showcases, a free-to-play gaming zone, and industry expert panels, celebrating esports culture and technology.

“Over the years, we have seen your passion fuel the growth of esports in Sarawak and beyond. Your talent, creativity, and unwavering support are the reasons SAREX has thrived.

“We are also proud to welcome international teams and participants from Southeast Asia. Your presence reminds us that esports is more than just competition—it’s a celebration of unity, diversity, and shared passion,” said Afiq.
