KUCHING: A homeless man was fined RM2,000 in default six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court for vandalising a flower vase belonging to a hotel at Jalan Padungan here.

Lim Teck Chong, 51, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

The incident happened on Dec 2 at around 9 pm when Lim caused RM300 in damages due to his act.

Based on the case facts, hotel employees discovered that the flower vase on the hotel’s sidewalk had fallen and broken.

Closed-circuit camera (CCTV) footage checks revealed that a man dressed in a grey shirt had kicked the flower vase.

Following that, the complainant filed a police report for further action, which led to Lim’s arrest at a community centre last Wednesday.

It was understood that he admitted to often kicking flower vases without a clear reason.

ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while Lim was unrepresented by counsel.
