DEBAK: The annual Debak Festival has proven to be a significant platform for the local community to engage in socio-economic activities.
Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, said the festival had made a positive impact, especially with its growing popularity among both local and international visitors.
“An estimated 15,000 people attended the Debak Festival this year, which has undoubtedly boosted the local economy,” he said during the festival’s closing ceremony on Sunday night.
“This event not only generates income but also fosters a sense of community and pride among the locals.”
This year’s festival was made possible through a collaboration with the Marvellous Food Festival Management.
Saribas assemblyman expressed his intention to further strengthen this partnership to organise even larger-scale events in the future.
However, he hoped for better coordination of festivals at the divisional level to avoid scheduling conflicts and ensure a positive experience for visitors.
“By coordinating festivals, we can create a more appealing tourism experience and maximise the benefits for the local community,” he added.
The Debak Festival featured a diverse range of activities, including traditional games, sports competitions, and cultural performances.
Local and international artists, such as Shidi (Data), Mawat, Ukays, and Baby Shima entertained the crowds.
More than 38 vendors participated in the festival, offering a variety of products and services.
Assistant Administrative Officer of Debak Sub-District, Mohammad Khairurani Mohammad Ibrahim, Marvellous Food Festival Management Manager Yatt Rafael, and Betong Division Chief Piee Alwi were also present at the event.
