KUCHING: Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng encouraged graduates to maintain a strong work ethic as they transition into their careers
He said this is important besides continuing to increase their knowledge and adopt innovation.
He said given that the world is evolving at a rapid pace, it is graduates’ responsibility to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing environment.
“I have personally witnessed the challenges employers face in finding skilled labour due to a shortage of college graduates,” he said at the Sunway College Kuching Graduation Ceremony where he represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (Dec 8).
“Your decision to pursue higher education is truly praiseworthy, along with your dedication to completing your studies is an achievement that should not be understated.
“It aligns with our goal of preparing the workforce with essential skills to meet the demands of the Sarawak business sector.
“Your knowledge and skills should not be limited to personal gain but should also serve the betterment of Sarawak’s business community and the wider society.”
Meanwhile, Sunway College Kuching CEO Owen Voon announced the introduction of new programmes, including the Certificate in Business Studies and a dual certification option for the Diploma in Accounting.
This allows students to earn both the Sunway Diploma in Accounting and the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business.
“We are proud to highlight that both our Diploma in Business Management and Diploma in Accounting are recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
“This recognition means that graduates of the Diploma in Business Management and Diploma in Accounting will automatically qualify for the CMI Level Three Certificate, providing them with a pathway to becoming Chartered Managers.
“Looking ahead, 2025 will be a significant year for Sunway College Kuching. We are excited to launch the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme in Office Administration, offering the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level Three in first quarter of 2025,” he said.
