KUCHING: Rumpun Silat Sarawak (RSS) Kuching Division has taken a significant step forward with the establishment of the RSS Kuching Training Centre, located at Sego Centre, Jalan Sultan Tengah here.

A statement issued by the institution stated that the centre is slated to commence operations in January next year.

The chairman of RSS Kuching division, Abdul Taib Yusup, announced plans to collaborate with the National Sports Council (MSN) and the District Sports Officer (SDO) for silat to design a series of activities for 2025.

Among the initiatives are Wasit Juri Certification Courses, training in standardised jurus techniques, and other programmes aimed at advancing silat sports in Sarawak.

“This facility will serve 49 silat schools under the RSS Kuching Division. Identifying and nurturing new talents in silat will remain a top priority,” Abdul Taib stated in a statement today (Dec 7).

He made the remarks following a courtesy visit from the Perguruan Pukulan 12 Spring Sendeng Hadiah, led by Guru Haini Hamlin from the Muara Tebas Branch.

The visit marked the first of its kind to the newly established training centre.

Silat branches from Kuching and Kota Samarahan also took the opportunity to strengthen ties with RSS Kuching Division.

The event featured a gift exchange, group photography, and a demonstration of pelampas techniques by the visiting silat school.

The RSS Kuching Training Centre aspires to become a central hub for developing future silat champions while preserving and promoting the rich heritage of traditional Sarawakian silat.
