Sarawak explores collaboration with Turkiye in education, healthcare, engineering

KUCHING: A delegation from Sarawak, led by State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki who is also Deputy Chairman of Yayasan Sarawak, recently visited Turkiye to explore collaboration opportunities in education, healthcare, and engineering. 

The delegation attended a luncheon hosted by Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal, which also saw the presence of Brunei’s Ambassador to Turkiye Noni Zurainah Ismi.

The gathering provided a platform to discuss regional and diplomatic cooperation. 

Meanwhile, at the Middle East Technical University (METU/ODTU), the delegation engaged with the Faculty of Engineering for a briefing on aerospace advancements.

The discussions offered insights into cutting-edge research and explored areas for future collaboration with Sarawak institutions. 

The group also visited Ankara Universitesi, where they engaged with TOMER, the Turkish Language and Education Centre. Discussions centered on strengthening cultural exchanges and exploring avenues to enhance language education between Sarawak and Turkiye.

On the final day of their visit, the delegation, led by Yayasan Sarawak Director Datuk Mersal Abang Rosli visited Hayat Hospital and Bursa Uludağ University, where they met with faculties specialising in medicine and health. Highlights included discussions on the university’s role in global health innovations, particularly its contributions to the Covid-19 vaccine.

The visit aimed to strengthen educational and health ties between Sarawak and Turkiye, fostering partnerships in key sectors such as medicine, engineering, and language education.
