KOTA SAMARAHAN: Georgina John, the grieving mother of Emiliany Lavinia, a Diploma in Electrical Engineering graduate from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), was struggling to hold back tears as she recalled her daughter’s untimely death earlier this year from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Georgina further revealed that her daughter, who was born on Sept 11, 2002, passed away on Jan 30, noting that the disease came unexpectedly.

“We were initially shocked upon finding out, and after being admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), she was discharged over a week in January.

“Then, she was admitted again and that time, she was already in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), so we were told to be ready,” she said.

According to Georgina, Emiliany went to SMK Kota Samarahan before pursuing her study at UiTM and was one of the excellent students there.

“She never ever told us and her dad what her ambition was initially,” she said.

Georgina said this when met by reporters after accepting her daughter’s diploma at the 100th UiTM Convocation Ceremony here today.

At the time of her daughter’s disease, Georgina said that Emiliany managed to complete her Diploma.

“She was planning to continue her Bachelor’s Degree but the plan was put on hold at that time.

“I was very sad because she was the only girl in our family out of four siblings.”

Georgina added that Emiliany always taught her youngest siblings Mathematics.

“She is a very independent woman, and has excelled in her studies since her secondary school days and I am very proud of her no matter what,” she added.
