KUCHING: The former Century Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton in Kuching is set to be revitalised as IHG Hotels and Resorts (IHG), in collaboration with Elica Equity Sdn Bhd.
The group will introduce its premium voco hotels brand to Malaysia.
The 321-room voco Kuching, part of a 12-storey mixed-use development, is slated to open in 2026. This marks IHG’s first venture into Sarawak and its return to Kuching after a 16-year absence.
According to a statement issued yesterday (Dec 3), voco Kuching will become part of a growing pipeline of 80 voco hotels globally, joining 77 existing properties.
IHG vice president (Development, South East Asia and Korea) Patrick Finn described the expansion as a significant milestone for the group in Malaysia, adding that they aim to nearly double their hotel portfolio in the coming years.
“These are exciting times for IHG in Malaysia as we are on track to almost double our estate in the next few years with a pipeline of fantastic hotels that include the debut of voco hotels and luxury and lifestyle brands Regent and Kimpton.
“Together with Elica Equity Sdn Bhd, we are committed to bringing voco hotels’ signature delightful and uplifting experiences to the market and attract more visitors to this beautiful destination in South East Asia,” he said.
Elica Equity director Datuk Bobby Ting noted that the development reflects a shared vision to elevate the hospitality landscape in Malaysia.
“It is our hope that this hotel not only fulfils our joint vision but also sets a new standard, inspiring future voco properties throughout Malaysia. This partnership has been a dream, aligning perfectly with our shared ambition to breathe new life into this property,” he added.
voco Kuching will offer a welcoming and dynamic space that embodies the voco hotel brands, combining charm, comfort and a premium stay experience with the reliability of a global brand and providing visitors a comfortable and relaxing base to explore the wonders of Sarawak.
Located a 15-minute drive from Kuching city centre and five minutes from Kuching International Airport, the hotel will feature facilities such as a swimming pool, an all-day dining café, a lounge, a fitness centre, and over 2,400 square metres of meeting spaces.
This includes a ballroom capable of accommodating 1,300 people and several function rooms designed to enhance the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) scene in Kuching.
IHG currently operates 10 hotels across five brands in Malaysia, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express.
With the addition of voco hotels, Regent, and Kimpton, the group is set to further expand its presence in the Malaysian market.
