KOTA SAMARAHAN: The waste ‘Buy Back’ Programme organised by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) starting yesterday (Nov 30) from 8 am to 12 noon will continue every Saturday at the same time behind MPKS Market Riyal here.

Under the initiative, MPKS will offer token payments for certain waste items from residents.

For instance, an old freezer fetches RM3, while an unused handphone is worth RM2.

“MPKS will collect those wastes and dispose of them properly and safely. Some wastes are hazardous and a potential danger to the public if not properly disposed of.

“We do this exercise and other related programmes to ensure that Samarahan is clean and safe in accordance with MPKS’s motto,” said MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos in a statement yesterday.

He added that the council is committed to maintaining a clean and healthy image, including periodically assist with anti-rabies and anti-dengue programmes together with other agencies.

“Samarahan residents are encouraged to support these cleanliness and safety initiatives for the betterment of the community,” he added.
