KUCHING: The Sarawak Indigenous Intellectual Association (PERANTIS) has expressed support for the education minister’s initiative to implement standardised assessments for the Dual Language Programme (DLP) starting next year.
Its deputy chairwoman, Nelly Tawai, said that beginning in 2025, Sarawak will implement standardised assessments for Year 6 pupils in the DLP, with an expansion to Form 3 students by 2028.
“The initiative, announced by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, aims to evaluate the true potential of students while aligning with international standards.
“The assessments are designed not only to gauge academic performance but also to provide insights into students’ strengths and weaknesses.
“This data-driven approach will enable targeted interventions to improve learning outcomes, reflecting a commitment to creating a globally competitive education system,” she said.
The move has been lauded as a step toward reducing dropout rates and enhancing educational opportunities.
She added that examinations play a pivotal role in shaping disciplined, knowledgeable, and successful individuals.
