KUCHING: A federal multi-purpose complex spanning 10 acres is set to begin construction this December at Lot 11125, Block 18, Salak Land District here, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Nanta said that the Letter of Acceptance (SST) had been issued, and project directors appointed.
The project contract, valued at RM140.79 million, has been awarded to Eastbourne Corporation Berhad.
“The complex will provide centralised office spaces for 138 Federal Departments and Agencies currently renting private premises or housed in state-owned buildings in Kuching,” he said.
According to Nanta, the project is scheduled to commence in December 2024 and is expected to be completed by October 2028.
The complex will include office buildings, a multipurpose hall, an auditorium, a surau, a daycare centre, commercial spaces, a guardhouse, parking facilities, and basic infrastructure.
Nanta added that the ministry has approved the construction of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Airbase at Bintulu Airport.
This project, part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (Rolling Plan 2), was initiated in August 2021 and will cover 48 hectares near the airport.
“Implementation will begin in November 2024, with completion expected by May 2028. It will establish a basic airbase with sufficient facilities to support optimal operational needs using existing personnel and military assets, in line with the Periodic Operational Base (POB) concept,” he said.
He added that the project will adopt Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology throughout its lifecycle, enhancing asset management effectiveness, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s mandate.
