KAPIT: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has directed the Kapit Parliamentary Office team to assess the needs of residents at Rumah Dennis Anak Langok Amang Ulu, Jalan Selirik, who were affected by this morning’s (Nov 27) flood and provide immediate assistance.
In a Facebook post, the Kapit MP said local authorities and rescue teams are working relentlessly to aid affected residents, including efforts to rescue those trapped and ensure their safety.
“I have been informed that the longhouse area began to flood as early as 6am today, submerging almost all vehicles parked in the area.
“Several other longhouses in the area have also been affected due to continuous heavy rain, causing the water level to rise rapidly and threatening the safety of the residents.
“In these uncertain weather conditions, I urge all residents in Kapit to always be cautious and follow the instructions of the authorities for everyone’s safety,” he said.
Nanta also conveyed his sympathy to the family of retired pastor Bangau Amping, 75, who was found dead after being trapped in his car due to the flood that struck the area.
“I am also informed that during the incident, the water had overtopped the road due to the rain that had been falling since the previous night, and strong currents had caused the car with the victim to be swept into a nearby drain.
“The victim was successfully retrieved around 7.40am this morning and was confirmed dead by medical personnel who arrived at the scene.
“I am deeply saddened and sympathise, and I pray that the victim’s family is given strength to face this trial,” he added.
