Bursa Malaysia turns higher at midmorning in tandem with regional peers

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia turned higher at midmorning in tandem with the upbeat regional market performance. 

At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.50 points to 1,606.54 from yesterday’s close of 1,604.04.

The benchmark index had opened 0.86 of-a-point lower at 1,603.18.

The broader market was positive, with gainers outpacing decliners 392 to 314, while 473 counters remained unchanged, 1,287 were untraded, and 14 were suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.33 billion shares valued at RM607.21 million.

Among the heavyweights, CIMB added 2.0 sen to RM8.23, Tenaga Nasional rose 6.0 sen to RM14.42, and IHH Healthcare put on 4.0 sen to RM7.26; but Maybank eased 6.0 sen to RM10.28 and Public Bank slid 1.0 sen to RM4.49. 

Among the actively traded stocks, Aizo edged up half-a-sen to 15 sen, MMAG Holdings improved 1.5 sen to 45.5 sen, Life Water gained 5.5 sen to 91.5 sen, and Cape EMS went up 1.0 sen to 39.0 sen, while Classita remained flat at 6.5 sen. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 43.65 points to 12,157.27, the FBM Emas Index bagged 24.19 points to 12,197.05, the FBMT 100 Index jumped 23.79 points to 11,899.61, the FBM 70 Index climbed 55.15 points to 17,919.04, and the FBM ACE Index expanded 8.02 points to 5,183.11.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.62 of-a-point to 170.87, the Energy Index added 3.94 points to 831.81, the Financial Services Index shed 22.0 points to 19,188.54, and the Plantation Index declined 27.93 points to 7,677.56.– BERNAMA
