Petronas grabs three awards, retains APAC National Oil Company of the Year

SINGAPORE: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) bagged three awards in the Asia Pacific Energy Award by Energy Council Wednesday.

The oil giant retained The Asia Pacific National Oil Company of The Year for three years in a row, beating Indonesia’s PT Pertamina and Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production.

Petronas’ Senior Vice President of Development & Production, Upstream Business, Adif Zulkifli received the award on behalf of the national oil company.

“This award recognises and honours everyone in the many teams involved across PETRONAS.

“Everyone’s tireless effort, as well as the commitment from our partners, and the harnessing of collaboration in many successful initiatives, has made this possible,” he said in his acceptance speech.

The Award ceremony took place at the Asia Pacific Energy Award Dinner, held in conjunction with the 2019 Asia Pacific Energy Assembly.

The Energy Council’s Awards represents a global benchmark of excellence for those working in the oil and gas industry.

The Council Awards honour and recognise those in the industry who have been at the heart of the region’s related activity in the last 12 months.

Over 50 judges took part over the course of several weeks to narrow down the publically decided long-list of nominees to determine the rightful winner which was based on stringent criteria.

“Right from the start, when we were incorporated around 45 years ago, Petronas has been, and continues to be committed to our mission to develop and add value to our oil and gas resources.

“We strive to deliver commercial and operational excellence as we enrich the lives of our customers through our integrated business, always looking from the customers’ lens,” said Adif.

Petronas also won the Asia Pacific Company of the Year for Downstream category while its Upstream Exploration Vice President Emeliana Rice-Oxley won the Asia Pacific Female Executive of The Year Award.

There were 10 categories this time with Malaysian oil and gas companies won four of them.

Besides Petronas, oil and gas services provider Sapura Energy Bhd was also awarded The Asia Pacific Company of the Year under energy services, offshore and marine category.

The Energy Council is the leading member’s platform for deal-initiation and global connectivity in renewables, as well as oil and natural gas sectors.
