KUCHING: The Sarawak Museum Department has received a significant donation of 27 miniature cannons, marking a notable expansion of its collection.

The symbolic handover took place at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam Hotel in the Netherlands, where the cannons were presented to director of the Sarawak Museum Department Nancy Jolhi.

The ceremony was also attended by Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, MTCP Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and MTCP permanent secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini.

The donation came from Peter Hamer, an engineer who had collected the miniature cannons during his time with Sarawak Shell Berhad in Miri between 1976 and 1984.

Expressing his wish to return these historical artefacts to their place of origin, Hamer emphasised their cultural significance to the region.

By donating the cannons to the Sarawak Museum, Hamer ensures that these valuable artefacts will be preserved and appreciated by future generations in their place of origin.
