KOTA SAMARAHAN: Saratok-born William Shadrian Wann Bilong @ Senang has made his farmer parents proud with an impressive track record while pursuing his Electrical and Electronics degree.
A Dean’s List student with a CGPA of 3.73 from Universiti Sarawak Malaysia (Unimas), William attributes his success to his discipline, time management, and determination to balance his academic responsibilities with his active involvement in university clubs and volunteer missions.
In addition to his studies, William has represented his university on international platforms, including a research programme at the University of Udayana and a recent humanitarian mission to southern Thailand.
He is also a recipient of the prestigious Yayasan Haji Suaidi Haji Arshid Foundation Award, an acknowledgment of his academic excellence and leadership.
Reflecting on his journey, William shared that his motivation stems from his roots.
“Being from Sarawak, I want to contribute to my homeland. All my struggles and achievements are aimed at giving back to Sarawak.
“My dream is to work within Sarawak’s industry, possibly leading engineering projects that can enhance local communities and contribute to the region’s progress.
“Maybe now, my expectations are to start my career from a low level, because I think there are a lot of things I need to learn. So, by learning, if I can see a career that fits my personality and environment, then why not go for it.,” he said.
William’s parents, Bilon @ Senang Abang, 64, and Mereka Nyawai, 57, who travelled over four hours from Saratok to Kuching to celebrate his achievements, expressed pride in the third child’s dedication.
His father, Bilon shared memories of his son’s early passion for learning and his commitment to his studies despite the sacrifices involved.
“I hope that my son will get a job first and once he has saved up enough then only should he think about settling down.”
As he prepares to graduate, William has aspirations of starting his career in a position where he can grow, learn, and eventually lead projects that make a difference.
