KUCHING: The Malaysian Institute of Architects Sarawak Chapter (PAMSC) is gearing up for its annual PAMSC Design Festival (PDF) 2024, with a mission to raise public awareness of the vital role architects play in shaping our environment.

The two-day festival, held in collaboration with World Architecture Day on Oct 18 at the Theatre Hotel, promises a dynamic programme.

Attendees can expect a thought-provoking Design Forum, a bustling Trade Expo, and a University Best Project Competition showcasing the future generation of architectural talent.

“The PDF serves a crucial purpose by showcasing the work of local and international architects, we aim to educate the public about the true impact architects have on the spaces we inhabit,” said Vice President and Organising Chairman Ar. IDr. Lau Chun Leong in a statement.

Highlighting the inclusivity of the event, Lau said, “We’re particularly excited to bring this forum to Sarawak. Similar events are often held in West Malaysia, creating a financial barrier for young architects, especially recent graduates, who yearn to learn from industry leaders. Here, we’re providing a more accessible platform.”

The theme, “Reimagining Urbanscape,” delves into the transformative potential of art and architecture.
From intimate pocket parks to sprawling cityscapes, the festival explores how innovative design can foster vibrant communities, cultivate creativity, and forge a strong sense of place.

The Design Forum boasts an impressive lineup of eight international speakers, including design luminaries like Ng Chin Yong of 10 Design (Hong Kong), James Shen of People’s Architecture (Los Angeles), and Eddie Putera from Kuala Lumpur.

Joining them are Feng Guochuan (Shenzhen), Tran Thi Ngu Ngon and Nguyen Hai Long (Tropical Space, Ho Chi Minh City), Nattapong Phattanagosai and Donlaporn Chanachai (Cloud Floor, Bangkok).
