SIBU: Selangor triumphed in the badminton mixed group category by defeating the Federal Territories in the final held at Sibu Indoor Stadium here, today (Aug 20).
This victory makes Selangor the first team to secure one of the six medals available in the badminton events. The Federal Territories won silver, while Penang settled for bronze.
Selangor remained unbeaten throughout the competition, maintaining their winning streak by securing victory in every match.
Selangor head coach Slamet Widiyanto pointed out that strategic player placement was crucial to their success.
“Today, we played very well, and our strategy was executed perfectly. We predicted that we might not win in the men’s singles, but we were confident in our chances for victory in the mixed doubles, women’s doubles, and women’s singles,” he said.
Widiyanto shared these remarks when speaking to reporters after the medal presentation ceremony, which was officiated by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who is also deputy chef de mission for badminton.
Widiyanto also revealed that the team is aiming for three gold medals in badminton. Having already secured one in the mixed group category, they are now focusing on winning gold in the men’s doubles and women’s singles events.
