SARATOK: Fort Ranee, one of the historic buildings in Saratok that is 136 years old, will be preserved as a heritage building in this region.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri stated that it is currently being used as a government agency office.

“In the long term, we have plans to improve the historic building.

“Like other forts, Fort Ranee is planned to be turned into a museum to showcase the historical relics of Saratok District.

“This means its sentimental value will be preserved through various efforts we plan so that future generations can see Fort Ranee, which holds various historical relics.”

He said this after accompanying Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, to inspect the building constructed by Charles Brooke here recently.

One of the plans is to build a watchtower outside Fort Ranee.

“The unique feature of this building is that it faces the Krian River, a popular venue for the annual boat race regatta.

“When standing on it, or on the future watchtower, one can see the beautiful view of Saratok from above,” he said.

He explained that Fort Ranee has played an important role as an administrative office since it was built by Charles Brooke in 1888.

“If it is successfully restored, Fort Ranee will become a landmark of Saratok and a must-visit destination for both local and international visitors.

“I am personally committed to ensuring that the building remains standing like other historical relics,” he added.

During his visit to the Saratok Civil Defense District Office, Mohamad urged the government agencies occupying the area to help preserve its surroundings.
