KUCHING: A 24-year-old man was rescued last night after his vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in Kampung Bumbok, along Jalan Batu Kitang, here.
The incident occurred at 7.56 pm yesterday (Aug 12), prompting a swift response from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the vehicle, a Mazda Sedan, had fallen into a ravine. The driver had already been pulled out from the car by passers-by. His family transported him to the hospital before the emergency services arrived.
Meanwhile in Marudi, a fire broke out in the early hours today at an oil palm estate in Tinbarap 2, Bakung, Baram, resulting in the destruction of a block of workers’ quarters. The incident occurred around 2.30 am and was reported to the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department.
According to reports, the fire engulfed six units of non-permanent structures that housed workers at the estate. A Hilux vehicle parked nearby was also affected by the blaze. The quarters were home to 11 residents, including seven Malaysians and four Indonesian nationals.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the residents, who managed to escape to safety. The extent of the damage to the quarters and the vehicle is yet to be fully assessed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
