DARO: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) is committed to ensuring the youth in Sarawak are equipped with technology and digital skills in line with the times.
Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, stated that this is among efforts to ascertain they are not left behind and are able to compete with the global community, especially the youth in other developed countries.
“Various initiatives have been carried out by Tegas, such as promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to youths, especially those in rural areas.
“Although it was quite challenging initially, Tegas has designed various programmes to attract interest and raise awareness about TVET, one of which is the SCaT Fair, which has been held since 2012.
“It not only involves students but also parents and local residents, who have the opportunity to learn more about TVET through programmes such as the Project of Dreams Realised (Pro-DR) Roadshow, Tegas Women Seminar, and other community programmes,” he said.
He said in a speech read by Balingian assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, at the Pro-DR Roadshow launching at the Daro Community Hall, here on Thursday (July 24).
Abdullah who is also Secretary of the Tegas Board of Trustees, mentioned that besides TVET, they are also responsible for nurturing the talents of youth and students through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
“In addition, Tegas has also been entrusted to manage the only Digital Village in Malaysia, which serves as a platform for the growth of startup companies, promoting digital innovation, and strengthening the digital entrepreneurship ecosystem in line with PCDS 2030.
“Thus, Tegas not only raises awareness in the fields of TVET and STEM but also acts to support the agenda of the Digital Innovation Ecosystem and the Digital Entrepreneur Ecosystem among the people of Sarawak,” he added.
Abdullah is confident that the programmes held will benefit all communities in Sarawak.
In the meantime, Abdul Yakub said the roadshow programme held throughout Sarawak has a significant impact, especially on the residents in rural areas.
“Through this Pro-DR, we can expose them to opportunities in the field of TVET.
“Not only that, through the exhibitions available, students, parents, and the public can learn about further education opportunities for them,” he said.
