KUCHING: Thailand will be the next training destination for the Sarawak muaythai squad to enhance their performance ahead of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024.
Sarawak State Muaythai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim confirmed the Thai stint.
“We will take them to Thailand next week. As usual, in addition to undergoing training, our athletes will participate in several tournaments while they are there,” he told Suara Sarawak.
The athletes will use the available time to prepare the athletes in various aspects. In addition to continuous training, exposure to competitive matches is also a priority.
“Our athletes will face fierce competition, considering the participation of athletes from other states.
“Thus, exposing our athletes to such matches in Thailand will indirectly serve as a benchmark for PMNS to ensure they are fully prepared,” he said.
Jumaat said the muaythai athletes will also engage in several friendly matches to test their skills.
“They will participate in friendlies against muaythai athletes from prominent clubs in Thailand,” he said.
On another note, he also confirmed that the list of muaythai athletes representing Sarawak at Sukma will be announced soon.
The muaythai events will commence on Aug 15 at the Naim Paragon Street Mall, Bintulu.
