MIRI: The Lions Club of Batu Niah has appointed Wilson Ho Wei Chee as its new president for FY2024-2025.

This announcement was made during the club’s Appreciation Awards Presentation and Fellowship Gathering held here on Wednesday (July 3).

During the event, outgoing president Andy Jong presented appreciation tokens to the Board of Directors (BOD) for FY2022-2023 and FY2023-2024, expressing gratitude for their cooperation and support.

He also awarded all BOD members at the event to acknowledge their contributions to society, benefiting the public through teamwork and enthusiastic participation in club affairs.

The event saw several key awards being presented. The Top Awards Lion of the Year was given to Past President Caren Huong Sia Wei, while the Distinguished Service of the Year Award was received by Past President Alice Yong Choon Tho.

The Most Outstanding Organising Chairperson Award was shared by Samantha Yong Yin Sia and Low Mei Ping.

Jong stated that with the dedication, unity, and cooperative spirit of all Lions members, community service activities are successfully carried out each year, such as rural eye examinations and medical treatments, services, and care for special children, among others.

“In the past two years, I have organised hunger relief activities, charitable red packet fundraisers, New Year goodwill activities, Spring Festival, and Hari Raya charity events.

“These efforts have helped more than 200 households or families in need by distributing food supplies and easing their living burdens,” he said.

He added that the club’s services focus on the five main service areas of Lions Clubs International: diabetes, environment, hunger relief, childhood cancer, and vision.

Other activities include youth services, disaster relief, and humanitarian services to promote these key services in the community.

“Our services have been recognised, and we won a gold medal at the 62nd Annual Lions Club International District 308 Convention Awards Ceremony in May. This achievement reflects the spirit and dedication of all committee members,” Jong added.
