SELANGAU: A family of seven was made homeless after their two-storey house at Kampung Selangau Baru here, was destroyed in a fire yesterday (June 24).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 3.10 pm incident as the tenants managed to evacuate to safety.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Selangau station was dispatched to the scene, about 5km away, after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the fire caused 90 per cent damages to the house and a car.

Another house, inhabited by a family of eight, suffered damages.

The extinguishing deed was performed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant and the flames were brought under control at 3.37 pm.

Overhaul works were carried out to ensure that there was no risk of reignition before the team ended the operation at 5.56 pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are under investigation.

It was reported that the affected family will stay with their relatives temporarily.
