S.Korea enhances co-operation with Sarawak

KUCHING: South Korea will enhance bi-lateral co-operation with Sarawak especially in the renewable energy sector.

Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to Malaysia, Yeo Seung Bae assured that South Korean government was committed to implementing projects in collaboration with the Sarawak government.

“I hope the Premier of Sarawak can focus on green hydrogen projects such as H2biscuss and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS),” he said after paying a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (June 10).

Present during the visit were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Abang Johari also received courtesy visits by delegations from Singapore and Japan at BCCK today.

The delegation from Japan included representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, ENOES Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation, along with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and its subsidiary, SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd.

It was led by the director general, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Department, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, METI Hiroo Inoue.

The visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in the development and supply of hydrogen and ammonia energy, following an agreement between SEDC Sarawak, ENOES Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan.

Meanwhile, the delegation from Singapore was led by the Deputy Secretary (Industry and Energy & Sustainability) Ministry of Sustainability & Environment Singapore, Keith Tan.
