LUNDU: Ten foreign men have been ordered to return back to their country after they were caught entering Sarawak illegally for employment purposes on Monday (June 3).

The First Infantry Division said a team of Malaysian and Indonesian soldiers came across the group walking from the Indonesia border into the state in Biawak around 12.30 pm.

All of them, aged between 18 and 30, were detained for inspections as they have entered the country via an illegal route, about 200 metres from the border.

“Further questioning found that the group was en-route to work in plantations.

Soldiers escort the foreigners to the state’s border for deportation to their country of origin.

“No prohibited or dangerous items were found among the foreigners’ possessions except a sum of cash, phones, wallets and clothes with a total value of RM11,430,” the division said.

Following checks, the foreigners were escorted to the state’s border to be deported back to Indonesia.

The army assured they are committed in tightening the border control and safeguard the state’s sovereignty from any illegal entries or cross-border crimes.
