142 pilgrims from Sarawak to perform haj in Makkah

KUCHING: A total of 142 pilgrims from Sarawak will perform the haj in Makkah.

The Sarawakians will join other pilgrims from Penang and depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 3.20 pm later today to Madinah and are expected to arrive at 7.10 pm (Saudi Arabia time).

Early this morning, Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi attended a ceremony to send off the pilgrims at Raia Hotel here.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Naim Mokhtar, Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) chairman Datuk Misnu Taha and Tabung Haji (TH) Sarawak and Sabah regional director Datuk Nurlaila Said

Mohd Naim in his address reminded the pilgrims to always take care of their health and personal hygiene in addition to following the advice given by Tabung Haji so that all haj practices can be carried out smoothly.

“Haj pilgrims are advised to refer to Tabung Haji staff who are always ready if they face any problems or in need of any guidance and assistance.

“The pilgrims are also advised to always take care of their health and always wear their tags and identity cards provided by Tabung Haji so that they can be easily identified in the event of an accident”, he said.

Around 986 pilgrims from Sarawak have been selected to perform the haj this year in the Holy Land.

There are 100 specially chartered flights for this season’s haj operation which started on May 9 and will end on June 9.
