KUCHING: The recently concluded state-level Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2024 has successfully recorded sales amounting to RM2.03 million.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the event hosted by the Bidayuh community and held from May 16 until 26 exceeded the sales record of last year’s Gawai Dayak Bazaar.
“With that, I want to congratulate our entrepreneurs and the Department of Agriculture (DOA) as the committee managing the sales booths at this year’s Sarawak Gawai Dayak Bazaar,” he said.
He said this during the closing ceremony of the Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2024 held at MJC Batu Kawa here last night (May 26).
Dr Jerip, who is also this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration management committee deputy chairman, added that there were 180 booths selling food and beverages, crafts, services including sewing, and jewellery products such as beads throughout the event.
“The booths involved were under the entrepreneurship and local product promotion cluster, which is one of the three main clusters outlined in this year’s Gawai Bazaar.
“Meanwhile, the other two clusters were the cultural, entertainment, and local talent performance cluster and the local community gastronomy and recreational activities cluster,” he said.
Dr Jerip also hoped that the next year’s Gawai Bazaar will be held at a bigger scale and more vibrant.
“With the Orang Ulu community being the host for next year’s Gawai Bazaar, I look forward to Deputy Minister in the Premier Department (Labor, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala and our friends from the Orang Ulu community making it a success,” he said.
Later, at the event, Dr. Jerip passed the baton to Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, signifying the Orang Ulu community as the host of the Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2025.
Also present were Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) special administrative officer Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik, who is also Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president.
