KUCHING: The Xibo Rami Oohhaa Tour is a significant cultural event that showcases Baby Shima’s debut Iban song, a momentous tribute to the Gawai celebrations.
The Xibo Rami Oohhaa Tour featuring artistes like Baby Shima, Hairee Frances, Melissa Francis, Jeffdom, Roxy Ixzy, Shirly, Nomi and KMJX was held at Aeon Kuching Sentral Mall today (May 25).
Baby Shima expressed her excitement about being able to sing an Iban song to celebrate the upcoming Gawai.
“It was difficult the first time trying to sing in Iban, but by listening to Iban songs repetitively and appreciating them, I was pleased to gain an understanding.
“However, if I encounter a word I don’t understand, I ask my composer for the meaning because I don’t want to convey the wrong message; the lyrics could be angry, but I might mistakenly sing the song with love, causing miscommunication,” she said during an interview with reporters.
Underscoring her dedication, Baby Shima said she invests two full days to understand and memorise each song she performs thoroughly.
Baby Shima also expressed her hope that people, especially Sarawakians, will accept her Iban single, Bujang Sarawak (Sarawakian Bachelor).
“I was thrilled to learn that ‘Bujang Sarawak’ was nominated for the semifinals of the 39th Muzik Muzik competition.
“If it is God’s will, I hope the song makes it to the finals, but I will need the help and support of my fans, especially Sarawakians, to keep voting for the song; I will be forever grateful to my Sarawakian fans for their love and support if it happens,” the giggly 32-year-old said.
For the record, the Xibo Rami Oohhaa Tour began at The Spring Mall, Bintulu, on May 18, followed by Permaisuri Imperial City Mall, Miri, on May 19; Bazaar Gawai at Pasar Tani Medan, Betong, on May 23; AEON Mall Kuching Central on May 24; and will continue to Serian for the Ngabang Festival, concluding on May 26 at Farley Supermarket, Kota Samarahan.
