SARATOK: An elderly man reported missing near Sungai Kelik Jabey, Jalan MPOB Sesang (PORIM) in Kabong, here, was found dead today.
According to reports by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters received information at 9.20 am from local villagers that the body of 72-year-old Mersat Bayang, had been found in the river at 9 am, approximately 2 km from the control post.
“The body was retrieved by firefighters using a boat provided by the longhouse residents. The identity of the deceased was then confirmed by the family.
“The victim was handed over to the police at 10.15 am for further action, and the search and rescue (SAR) operation concluded at 10.30 am.
The incident was first reported yesterday (May 16) at 1.52 pm, when Bomba was alerted to the disappearance of Mersat.
He was last seen fishing by the river at m 1.30 pm, but later could not be located by his family.
