THE Transport Ministry is now part of the technical committee of the Trans Borneo Railway Feasibility Study.
According to its minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, his ministry called for tenders for the said feasibility study in March and is currently in the process of tender evaluation.
“The scope of the feasibility study is to evaluate factors such as route and station options, cost estimates, sustainable development, environmental impacts, and potential socio- economic benefits to Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan and Brunei,” he said.
He said when delivering his Ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 13).
Earlier this year, a Brunei based company, announced the Trans Borneo Railway high-speed rail network project where it will be the first high-speed rail network in Borneo to shorten the travel distances between Kalimantan, Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei.
On another matter, Lee also announced that his ministry is currently in the final stage of negotiation to take over the Marina Awam Kuching.
“The acquisition is expected to be finalised by the end of this year,” he said.
