MIRI: The 500-metre Wireless Walk upgrading project along the North Yu Seng Road here will be Miri city’s new landmark, once it is completed by the end of February this year.

“It will become one of Miri’s tourism corridors,” disclosed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg after visiting the project site yesterday.

Upon his arrival, Johari later attended a 15-minute briefing session on the project’s progress conducted by Francis Uling Majoi of BL Consultant Team.

“The project is expected to be completed by the end of February this year, equipped with facilities, namely high speed Internet connection apart from cooking utensils and cooking gas for traders,” said Johari after the visit.

Currently, 70 percent of the upgrading works have been completed.

The Wireless Walk project, once completed, will house 62 kiosks, including space for five food trucks and 12 washrooms.

The project has been divided into four zones (A, B, C and D), and out of the 62 kiosks available, 10 would be allocated for non-Bumiputera entrepreneurs, said Johari.

“The ‘Wireless Walk’ has been named after the famous Kampung Wireless, as part of our effort to propel Miri’s tourism.

“Within this project, we not only provide good food and traditional delicacies, but also high speed Internet connection not only to benefit tourists, but locals as well,” he opined.

The RM3.35 million Wireless Walk upgrading project was initiated by Johari when he was the tourism minister.

The Wireless Walk upgrading project started on Feb 9, 2018 and was supposed to be completed by October that same year. However it was extended.
