KUCHING: Malaysia Airlines said it has commenced the gradual reinstatement of flights to and from Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan since yesterday (Apr 18) evening.
“This positive development follows the necessary flight cancellations due to the volcanic eruption at Mount Ruang, Indonesia.
“While the airline endeavours to restore normal operations as soon as possible, several Malaysia Airlines flights scheduled for today (Apr 19) have been cancelled with consideration for weather and operational safety,” it said on its website today.
The list of cancelled flights for April 19, 2024 are MH2610 (KUL-BKI), MH2611 (BKI-KUL), MH2612 (KUL-BKI), MH2621 (BKI-KUL), MH2646 (KUL-BKI), MH2641 (BKI-KUL), MH2660 (KUL-TWU), MH2661 (TWU-KUL), MH2710 (KUL-SDK), and MH2711 (SDK-KUL)
Malaysia Airline said all other flights today remain on schedule, and updates will be given on its website periodically and communicated directly to affected customers should there be any changes to their flights.
It also urged passengers to update their contact details via My Booking on Malaysia Airlines’ website to receive timely updates from time to time via email and SMS.
To minimise the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen cancellations, the airline said it is offering affected customers a one-time change to their travel itinerary free of charge, or opt for a full refund irrespective of their fare family.
Meanwhile, AirAsia in a statement on its website at 10 am today said that due to the recent eruption of Mount Ruang, several AirAsia flights scheduled to depart to and from East Malaysia will be impacted.
It also urged guest travelling to and from the affected destinations to check their latest flight status at airasia.com/flightstatus.
In light of this weather event, AirAsia is making several options available to guests whose flights have been cancelled.
“Guest can move flights, where this is a one-time change to any new travel date within 30 days from the original departure date on the same route without additional cost and subject to seat availability.
“Or guests can retain the value of the flight booking in the guest’s Airasia Rewards member account for future travel with AirAsia to be redeemed within 730 calendar days (two years) from the issuance date.
“The travel date of the new booking can fall on any date within the published flight schedule on airasia.com,” it said.
