KUCHING: Sarawak’s Ministry of Transport Sarawak has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive study on road accidents in the state, in collaboration with the Malaysian Road Safety.
Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the study aims to assess various factors contributing to road accidents, including road conditions, human factors, and physical infrastructure, across all roads in the state.
“Initial discussions would be held with relevant bureaus to strategise and plan the research effectively,” he said after officiating the state-level Road Safety Campaign for the festive season here today (Apr 3).
He cited recent statistics, indicating Miri as recording the highest number of fatalities, primarily along the Pan Borneo Highway, followed by Padawan and Sarikei.
“Part of the increased fatalities in Miri is attributed to ongoing construction activities along the Pan Borneo Highway.
“The ministry’s committed to addressing feedback received, particularly regarding road signage and enforcement of traffic regulations,” he said.
