KUCHING: Sending Raya greeting cards is becoming less common in this digital age, where social media are the main ways for people to communicate.
Malaysians have long been known for their tradition of exchanging beautiful cards to convey holiday greetings. These cards showcased stunning designs and heartfelt messages that conveyed love, unity, and a deep appreciation for cultural traditions during Raya festivities.
However, due to the rise of technology and the popularity of smartphones and social media networks, the tradition of exchanging physical greeting cards has greatly decreased.
New Sarawak Tribune has spoken to some locals to gather their opinions on sending physical greeting cards or e-greeting cards during the Raya celebration.

I actually prefer e-greeting cards because they are easy to send to all my friends. Physical greeting cards are a bit complicated because I cannot give them directly to my friends when I don’t have time to meet them in person. I prefer e-greeting cards.

I prefer sending e-greeting cards because I’m living in Peninsular Malaysia and I have a lot of friends from Sarawak, so it’s much easier for me to send them compared to physical greeting cards.

During Raya, I prefer to send e-greeting cards. Look at how our modern technology has evolved. I can use tons of templates and create my own version of e-greeting cards, too. Plus, it is free. There’s no need to spend a single cent on it. So, I really prefer e-cards.

Since more people read on social media these days, I prefer sending e-greeting cards during Raya. It is free to send e-greetings to all of your distant friends. Additionally, it can save time because I can send a greeting to someone on the morning of Raya without having to wait for it to arrive.
