MIRI: The Sarawak government remains committed to boosting the state’s revenue to drive additional development projects aimed at upgrading facilities and infrastructure across the state.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that such efforts are aimed at benefiting the people by accelerating development and the economy of Sarawak.
Abang Johari also expressed gratitude to the people of Sarawak for giving him the opportunity and trust to serve them and the state since 1981.
He asserted that Sarawak is now in a new era focusing on the green economy and technology.
“In the two years following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sarawak government has successfully generated revenue of RM11 billion in 2022, and RM13 billion last year.
“I hope that the revenue this year will also experience a higher increase,” he said when officiating at the new Taman Jelita mosque here on Friday evening.
Abang Johari revealed that the new Taman Jelita mosque, now named Jamal Ad-Din mosque, was constructed to facilitate Friday prayers previously held at the old mosque, Masjid Al-Firdaus, Taman Tunku.
He said the new mosque’s name signifies beauty in religion.
As such, he expressed hope that the new mosque would provide comfort to the Muslim community, especially those residing in the area, to fulfil their religious obligations.
“Alhamdulillah, we have established a mosque that I believe is quite comfortable in Taman Jelita for the Muslim community here to fulfil their responsibilities to Allah SWT and play a role in developing our society, especially the Muslim community,” he added.
Among those in attendance were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Federal Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni; Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development Datuk Rosey Yunus; Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat; and Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.
Also present were chief political secretary to the Premier cum Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang who is also Pujut assemblyman; Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha; Miri Resident Jamalie Busri; deputy Resident Juan Ubit; and acting director of Sarawak Islamic Religious Department Ustaz Ahmad Sukarno Saini.
