BINTULU: Homeowners should ensure that they disconnect electrical appliances from the power supply before leaving their homes unattended for an extended period during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad, Chief of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bintulu Zone, highlighted the common occurrence of the long holiday during the celebration.

He made these remarks while distributing porridge to road users on Jalan Tun Razak in front of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Bintulu office on Tuesday.

Wan Kamarudin emphasised the importance of homeowners taking appropriate safety measures to prevent unwanted incidents while they are away.

He also mentioned that the police have repeatedly advised homeowners to inform them before leaving their homes vacant to facilitate effective patrols and surveillance.

Furthermore, Wan Kamarudin urged parents to closely supervise their children during the holidays.

He expressed concerns about potential risks when children engage in indoor activities, as they may be tempted to experiment with new things, particularly playing with fire.
