KUCHING: The monthly quota of 60,000 metric tons for packet cooking oil production remains unchanged, says Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fauziah Salleh.
However, she said there is a significant demand for packet cooking oil, particularly within micro-industries.
“The utilisation of packet cooking oil, especially in places like school canteens, remains notably high. This consistent demand often leads to instant sell-outs whenever supermarkets manage to restock,” she said.
She said this when met by reporters after officiating the MySaveFood programme in conjunction with the Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar at Metrocity night market here yesterday (Mar 22).
“The stock is there, but the demand is of course high,” she added.
She insisted that any complaints regarding the lack of packet cooking oil stock at the supermarket should be promptly directed to KPDN.
“Once the complaint is being made then KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin will head down alongside his staff and make an inspection.
“I myself would head down to the field if I ever receive any complaint from the consumers, and we will pursue an investigation regarding the matter.
“If it is true that packet cooking oil is not available for two weeks for instance, then do let us know as soon as possible. From then onwards, we will do what we can to ensure the stock is there,” she added.
Fuziah then reassured that the packet cooking oil will always be available as soon as it becomes part of the targeted subsidy programme.
“Once it has become part of the targeted subsidy later, we will ensure that the packet cooking oil will always be available one way or another.
“Those who need it the most will get it,” she said.
