KUCHING: Further deliberations regarding the registration of Sarawakians in the Central Database Hub (PADU) are set to take place, says Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will engage in additional talks on the matter.
“The prime minister and the Premier had a brief conversation on this, and it was decided that there will be a follow-up discussion,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by FMT yesterday evening.
Fahmi, who is also the spokesman for the Unity Government to handle the media, went on to say that PADU is still open for registration, and the response in Sarawak has been “quite good”.
Yesterday (Mar 22), Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was reported saying that the Sarawak Government has its reservations and assured that Cabinet discussions have been held on PADU’s implications.
He also said that Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali had been tasked to review the matter.
Meanwhile, an official memorandum issued on March 21 advising against registering on PADU due to security concerns has gone viral on social media.
The memo advises residents in various districts and resident office staff to refrain from registering their information on PADU until further notice.
It also requested the extension of the directive to community leaders, village chiefs, and village development and security committees (JKKK) under the purview of the relevant office.
