Miri man loses RM53,000 in loan scam

MIRI: A man in his 40s, who intended to secure a loan of RM30,000, fell victim to a scam, resulting in a loss of RM53,000.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed receiving a report on the incident lodged by the victim, who works as a supervisor in a private firm here, on yesterday (March 12).

“The victim was scrolling through Facebook when he came across a loan advertisement that caught his eye,” according to ACP Alexson.

Investigations revealed that the victim made a total of 12 online transactions to the suspect.

Fortunately, the victim realised that something was amiss as the suspect kept asking for additional payments.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
