EVERY girl dreams about her wedding day – from the fairytale-like dress to the tiniest details for the venue’s decorations.
It is a day filled with anticipation and excitement, where every detail is carefully planned to create a magical experience.
For Zaimie and I, our wedding season came in four different events namely Malam Berinai (Henna Night), Majlis Pertunangan dan Akad Nikah (engagement and solemnisation ceremony) followed by two receptions.
As such, you can just imagine how busy we have been especially for the past two weeks.
We did not plan to have a grand or elaborate event for our wedding, but as the firstborn for both our parents, we felt a sense of responsibility to make it special.
Planning a wedding is a labour of love which figuratively involves blood, sweat and tears.
There is no denying that I took charge for most of the planning, managing, and coordinating various vendors and items, but I appreciated how Zaimie gave me the freedom to do so.
For the past few months, my head has been filled with so many ideas and inspirations thanks to Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok that I wanted to incorporate for our wedding.
I wanted our family, friends and guests to not only remember our wedding but enjoy themselves.
It is safe to say that we managed to achieve this goal because our social media feed has been flooded with pictures and videos capturing the magical moments at our wedding.
We are pleased to see how everyone left with big smiles on their faces and imparted touching well wishes to us at each event.
Moreover, it was a sight to behold to see our parents beaming with pride and joy as they mingled with our guests.
The four events also served as a mini reunion for distant relatives, our parents’ colleagues, and friends as well as our high school teachers and schoolmates.
There were those who sadly could not make it, but I am glad that technology and social media allowed them to catch a glimpse of our wedding.
Of course, there were some hiccups during the four events, and this is something that future brides and grooms should anticipate and prepare for.
It is important to note that they should not allow these hiccups spoil their mood or stop them from having the time of their lives at an event which is celebrating their love.
There were moments where I almost became a bridezilla, thankfully I was surrounded by people who swooped in to handle the situation promptly and calm me down.
Among those people were my maid of honor, Nuralya Alyssa Azureen Ismail and my cousin who was my event manager, Nur Hidayah Abu Samah.
I honestly cannot begin to imagine how chaotic things would have been without their support and quick thinking.
Their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond for Zaimie and I truly made a difference – I will be forever grateful for their presence on our special day.
It is moments like these that remind me of the importance of having a strong support system during life’s significant events.
Their unwavering support not only eased my worries but also allowed me to fully enjoy and cherish every moment of our wedding celebration.
The hiccups rendered me stressed and panicky, I tried my best to not let it spoil my mood.
What mattered most was the fact that people who I love and care about were there to celebrate with us.
In fact, I loved these little imperfections because it somewhat made the events more memorable and something for both Zaimie and I to reflect on with fondness.
No matter how perfectly and meticulously you put attention and effort into the planning and managing process, there is no telling nor stopping hiccups from happening.
Nonetheless, Zaimie and I are grateful for everyone who came to show their support and love in celebrating our joyful union.
As we bid farewell to our wedding season, we are excited for the adventures that we will embark on including all that life will throw at us.
We know that each challenge will push us to grow stronger and better, not only individually but as a pair.
To those who blessed us with their presence, support, and love, we would like to express our sincere and heartfelt ‘thank you’ for being part of our new chapter in life.
